Key Facts about Car Tire Safety

We change clothes almost every season. From winter’s cardigans, scarves, mittens, leggings, winter boots, and hoodies into t-shirts, tank tops, sundresses, sandales, sun hats, and sunglasses come spring and summer. However, most of us don’t think about changing our car tires every season.

Your car’s tires are a vital part of your automobile. They have direct contact with the riding surface and literally form the basis of how our vehicles move. Regular checks of air pressure in tires, rotating the tires, checking tire tread depth, balance and alignment of tires and changing tires according to the season and terrain are important car tire safety factors to be considered.

Depending on where you live and the weather conditions there, seasonal tires are often a safety necessity. For example, even though all-season tires are capable of being used in a variety of conditions, winter tires provide better grip in snow and over ice. Certainly, lightweight summer tires are not made for snow or ice at all. Rather, winter tires have tread rubber that is flexible and grip the road better along with deeper tread depths and unique tread patterns in these tires reduce the buildup of snow and slush and provide good traction.

Car tire safety can be monitored in a number of ways, including:

1. Look out for physical signs of wear and tear
Under-inflated and over-inflated tires, both create wearing of the tires either in the center of the tread or in the edges of the tire tread. Perfectly inflated tires account for good gas mileage and extend the life of the tires. Erratic tread wear, on the other hand, is caused by the poor action of shock absorbers or other suspension components. Flat tires must be fixed immediately, and tire pulling on one side & unusual tire vibrations must also be checked with wheel alignment and tire balancing.

2. Perform a regular tire tread inspection
After performing the traditional quarter and penny tests, if you find that the tires need to be replaced, take them to a good automobile service center to buy and fix the tires suitable for your vehicle.

3. Regular tire rotation
The front and back tires of automobiles perform different functions. So rotating them is essential for even wear out.

4. Car insurance
Another important factor to keep in mind is car insurance that covers different types of tire damage, but in case of an insurance, break be aware that insurance companies do not cover any claim during the period the vehicle is uninsured.
