Natural Treatments for Dry Eyes

Do you at times feel as though there are stones in your eyes which give you a burning sensation? You could be having dry eyes. The common symptoms of chronic dry eyes include red eyes, blurred vision, sore eyes, aching sensation, and photophobia, among many more signs. You need to control the eye condition if you realize any two or more of such symptoms.

The following natural solutions can be effective for dry eyes:

1. Warm eye compresses

The dry eye can be as a result of clogging of the oil glands in the eye so that no tear is produced. In most cases, this happens due to inflammation of the eyelids. Warm eye compresses, therefore, help to melt the oil clog. It hence allows the oil-producing glands to operate efficiently for tear production. Warm eye compression is a natural remedy that might not lead to any side effects. You can do it at home. You need to wet a clean cloth with warm water. Squeeze it to keep the heat and use it to compress it on the eyelid. Do this outwards to squeeze the melted oil out. Do it every day to reduce the rate of inflammation to allow the natural production of tears.

2. Omega-3 supplements

The oil-making glands in the eye must be active to produce enough oil needed in lubricating your eye. When the eyes are well lubricated, the irritation gets eased. Tears are made of mucus, water, and oil. All these components must be well produced. Omega-3 supplements naturally help the oil-producing glands to work better. The natural fatty acids can be obtained through foods if the supplements are not available. Salmon, tuna, and trout fishes prove to have the best amount of omega-3 fatty acids. Eat them naturally to do away with the dry eyes.

3. Castor oil eye drops

Castor oil is also an essential oil that boosts the production of tears to do away with the dry eyes. However, some people’s eye glands cannot produce enough tears if not triggered by pain leading to crying. Such people need the little tears available to stay longer without evaporating. The castor oil eye drops, therefore, reduces the tear evaporation hence no dryness.

4. Use of a humidifier

You can also ensure that you boost the humidity of the air around you. Humidifiers can make this happen without much strain. You can also do so by placing some pan with water next to your home radiator or heater. This circulates the water in minimal quantities into the air so that your eyes naturally get some moisture hence no dryness.

5. Drink more water

Water intake helps in preventing several health conditions. The same applies to the eye. Drinking more water can help in keeping your eyes moist. Ensure you don’t wait to be thirsty to take the same water. The best way to go about it is to consider the water as some medication that has to be taken. However, if you don’t like water at all, you can supplement it by eating water-rich foods like watermelon. The foods should, however, not replace your water intake.
