Shaving and Hair Removal Safety for Women

Many women start to shave at between the ages of 12 to 16-years old. Of course everybody is different and hair grows at different rates. However, as the warmer weather approaches, many women like to shave everything from their armpits to bikini line to legs.

Shaving can be a dangerous sport. Slippery shower conditions and old razors can leave you with nicks and razor burn, not to mention deep cuts and abrasions, which you particularly want to avoid if you shaving near the bikini region. Luckily, we’ve gathered some safety tips for shaving tips for shaving every area to smooth perfection:

  1. Shaving

Shaving with a razor is certainly the easiest and least time-consuming hair removal process. When you shave, you essentially remove the soft tips of hair exposed above the skin, which is why when it grows back it often feels coarser to the touch. For a smooth shave:

  • Always use a clean razer blade each time.
  • Never use a dull or damaged razor blade. It can cause chaffing and injury.
  • Prior to shaving apply a shaving gel or a good body wash to lubricate the area.
  • Shave in the direction of the hair growth.
  • After shaving pat skin dry and apply a good body lotion.

  1. Waxing

Waxing is another effective method to remove body hair. A sticky wax is applied on the skin, which adheres to hair quite quickly. Using cloth strips, the wax is pulled off with force, taking hair too. The sticky wax is either hot or cold.

  1. Sugaring

Some people prefer to use an organic version of waxing, known as sugaring, which is a sugar paste boiled in water and reduced to a thick consistency. The procedure is more or less the same without fabric strips, and is reputed to be gentler on skin.

  1. Laser hair removal

Laser hair treatments require a professional who destroys the hair roots with an intense laser, or beam of light. Laser hair removal is safe anywhere on the body. However, it’s often a less effective removal technique for white hair and blond hair. While laser hair sessions can be hours, and take several sessions (10 to 12 treatments on average) to be effective, it is permanent hair removal.
